Today, the decorative rabbit is a popular pet. It is quiet and peaceful in nature and can be a pleasant and unobtrusive company. The decorative rabbit is also called a rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus), belonging to the Oryctolagus family of Leporidae. Representatives of this species reach a body length of 20 to 50 cm and weigh from 500 g to 3 kg. They have well developed hind legs that allow them to run up to 4 km / h. They have a different color of the coat – brown, black, white, yellow-brown or gray.

Rabbits are sociable and playful animals, love to live in groups. They can prune grass all day. It is vital for them to take enough grass. In addition to being useful, it nourishes their teeth and keeps them healthy. The teeth of the decorative rabbit are growing for the rest of their lives. Cringing something constantly, the rabbit scraps and maintains it to bearable size. If they do not regularly brush their teeth, they can grow up to cause pain and even death. Therefore, it is important for the farmer to provide the necessary stock of grass or a toy to chin. The average life of the decorative rabbit is about 8 years.

All rabbits are predisposed to Missomatotis disease. This is a disease caused by a measles virus. It leads to the appearance of jelly-like bouquet (tumors) in the subcutaneous tissue. On the body of the animal – around the eyes, the mouth, the ears and the anus – bumps and puffiness appear. Carriers of the harmful virus are flies and any other insects. Treatment is by a special vaccine. If not applied in time, the animal may die. So far there are no data on diseased animals on the territory of the country, but such cases are reported annually in Europe. In order to minimize the risks of such fatal consequences, it is recommended that animals be vaccinated every 6 months or at least once a year.

For many nations, the rabbit is perceived as a symbol of fertility and rebirth. In a number of countries, honoring the Easter rabbit in the spring and the Easter holiday is to this day.

Rabbits are known for rapid and effective reproduction. Pregnancy lasts about a month (28 to 32 days). Females can give birth 5-6 babies 3 to 5 times a year.
